Face Recognition
Face Recognition runs automatically in the background — you don’t need to say a command. When VISION sees someone you’ve registered, it announces them. If multiple familiar people are in view at once, it announces all of them.
How It Works (In Simple Terms)
- A dedicated camera on your glasses watches for faces
- When a face is detected, VISION checks it against your registered list
- If it’s a match, VISION announces the person’s name
- If several familiar people are in view at the same time, each one is announced
Example
(two friends walk up and stand next to each other)
VISION: “I see Alex.”
VISION: “I see Sam.”
If there are people in view you haven’t registered, VISION simply ignores them and stays silent.
Multi-Face Detection
Unlike simple recognition systems, VISION is designed to handle real-world group situations:
- Multiple faces at once — family dinners, meetings, gatherings
- Faces at different angles — looking toward you, slightly sideways, or in partial view
- Near and far — the person in front of you and the person behind them can both be announced
- No-repeat cooldown — once someone is announced, VISION won’t repeat their name for a short while even if they stay in view, so it doesn’t get noisy
Registering Faces
Familiar faces are registered through the VISION mobile app:
- Open the app and go to Familiar Faces
- Tap Add New Face
- Take a clear photo of the person’s face
- Enter their name
- Save — the new face syncs to your glasses automatically
No need to restart the glasses. Within moments, the system can recognize them.
Privacy
- Recognition happens using a secure mathematical representation of each face, not raw images
- Only people you register can be recognized — strangers are never announced
- You control who is in your list and can remove anyone at any time
- Detections are logged to your app so you can see a timeline of who you’ve encountered — only you and your linked caretakers can see this
